The Poker Boom
Oh the days of sitting at home making a living playing online poker anytime you wanted. It was a dismal day on April 15th, 2011, also known as “Black Friday” when it all came to an end. Yes I know there are still a few random sites that you can kind of get away with still playing for money, but it isn’t like in the mid to late 2000’s when you could hop on 4 sites at a time and get any kind of game anywhere. There were so many people playing, that you didn’t even have to be that good to win. I had friends making more money in a single night then they could make all year in their regular job. The best part was that you didn’t have to fly to Vegas to get the action. You could do it all from the comfort of your own home.
Sometimes you don’t know how good it is until it is gone. 5 years later and we are still hoping to get the main stream of poker back online. It was good for the larger live events as well. You could play satellites online to get into live events which helped fill them out. When online died, events around the globe suffered an expected loss in entries but actually not as bad as I thought it would be. Those online players still had to get their fix so they continued to travel and play more live events which is good for a players game in general.
Not but a month ago I caught wind that Certain pro players are still working with government officials to bring online poker back into the states. I can only speculate that there will be a heavy tax from good old uncle sam, but honestly, who cares if we get to play again. Take some of the money, just give us our online poker again!
Will it happen is the big question?
I would love your thoughts and ideas on this…maybe you have heard more than me? Leave a note and let us know below…
